Chair guide
The chair adjudicator's device is the host: it holds the round, decides what every other device may do, and keeps the private material (notes, ballot, transcripts).
Before the round
- Pick the network. Venue Wi-Fi often stops devices from seeing each other. The most reliable setup is your phone's hotspot, with everyone joining it. In the lobby, Wi-Fi QR shows a code people can scan with their camera to join your hotspot.
- Check the bells. Home → Bell settings changes speech length, grace period, POI window and each bell (time, pattern, label). Settings are saved per format.
- Download a transcription model on Wi-Fi if you'll transcribe offline: Home → Transcription settings → Download next to Base.
Start and invite
- Home → choose British Parliamentary or UADC, enter the motion, Start round.
- Tap Invite devices. Show the QR code, or read out the line under it
(for example
192.168.43.1 Y2BK3M). - Requests appear under Requests. Check or change the role and seat, then Approve. Approving a debater for a seat fills in their name for the ballot and report.
- You can change anyone's role later or Remove them. A device that drops off Wi-Fi rejoins automatically, with the same role.
If no address appears (common on a phone acting as hotspot), add it by hand:
your hotspot settings show it, often 192.168.43.1.
Running speeches
- Start / Pause / Resume / Stop / Next → control the clock. Tap a speech chip (PM, LO, …) to jump to it. Each speech is recorded automatically while Auto-record is on.
- The timer card changes shade as time runs out and names the phase: Protected time, POIs open, Wrap up, Grace period, Overtime (overtime flashes).
- Ring bell / Ring ×2 ring on every device.
- Flow notes: type and press Enter or Add note; each note is stamped with the current speech time.
Interruptions
- Debaters raise POIs and points from their phones. You can also raise one on someone's behalf: tap POI / POO / POP, then the seat.
- POI: the speaker accepts or declines (on their phone if they've joined, otherwise on yours). It expires after 10 seconds unanswered and closes after 15 seconds once accepted. POIs are only possible in the open window, and only from the other side of the house.
- POO / POP: the clock pauses until you rule Well taken, Not well taken or Under consideration (or the point is withdrawn).
- If the debater raising a point has joined, their phone records it and sends the clip to you; the log shows audio ✓.
After the round
Leave the timer to reach the round's review screen (also reachable from History on Home):
- Transcribe all, or Transcribe on one recording. Tap a transcript line to play from there.
- Ballot: see Ballots and reports. Mark final once there are no problems listed.
- Export PDF: Android opens the share sheet; Windows asks where to save. Toggle Include transcripts first if you want a shorter report.
